Stevens senior defender Nick Gkionis has been named a first team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Gkionis is Stevens’ second men’s soccer player to earn first team All- America honors. Former teammates Brian Marks was a first-team selection in 2004, while Giuseppe Incitti was a second-team selection in 2002.

He was named to the All-Metro first-team for the second-straight year after anchoring a Stevens’ defense that allowed only 15 goals in 2006. Gkionis ended his final season with nine goals and eight assists for 26 points.

Gkionis was the team’s fifth-leading scorer in 2005 with 28 points. He was an All-Skyline selection in 2004 and 2005. In the 2005 conference championship, he netted the gamewinning goal in double overtime against the US Merchant Marine Academy and was named the tournament MVP. That same year he was an NSCAA All-Metro first-team selection.

“He has been a force on the team for the last four years. He is one of the best center backs in the country at any level. He is also a complete player who has added dimensions to his game every year,” said head coach Tim O’Donohue.

Gkionis, the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, helped Stevens to an 18-0-3 unbeaten season and its fourth-straight Skyline championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. Stevens also advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year. The Ducks were ranked No. 10 in the nation in the final NSCAA Division III poll. – SM

In its first regional poll of the 2006-07 season, the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Committee placed Stevens at No. 2 in the Atlantic Region – marking the program’s first-ever NCAA regional ranking. On the men’s side, the number of ranked teams depends on the number of teams in each of the eight regions.

At press time, Stevens had gone 16-1 since starting the season with a 3-3 record, and was in first place in the Skyline Conference with a league mark of 12-2. The Ducks have already set a new school record for wins in a season. The previous mark of 16 wins was set in 1995-96. – SM
