Lyric's season finale features Liszt concerto; solo marimba work

For its season finale concert at Stevens Institute of Technology, The Lyric Orchestra offers up a varied program that brings back a favorite guest soloist, Beatrice Long, to perform Franz Liszt's dramatic Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major. The concert also provides a treat for those who long to hear more unusual solo instruments - an innovative work for orchestra and marimba, featuring the orchestra's talented principal percussionist, Greg Giannascoli. (Details about the full concert program are at the bottom of this page.)

Having performed its best season yet at Stevens' DeBaun Auditorium as well as to a sold-out Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall recently, the orchestra looks forward to international travel and exposure to new audiences this summer as well as to planning its next season at home.

The 45-member orchestra, conducted by Maestro Franco Bertacci, brings together extraordinarily talented young musicians (average age 25) from more than a dozen countries. Its players, selected by audition, include an impressive variety of top students and recent graduates from The Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music and other renowned conservatories worldwide. Guest artists and soloists from the region are also regularly featured.

The orchestra performs its regular season at Stevens' elegant DeBaun Auditorium, the recent winner of a statewide award for historic preservation. The auditorium is conveniently located about six blocks north of Hoboken's historic transit terminal, with service from New York and New Jersey.
