HOBOKEN, N.J. Dr. Michael Poli, Distinguished Associate Professor and Associate Director of Project Management for the Stevens Institute of Technology, will be a guest lecturer on board a cruise from New York to Canada hosted by the New Jersey Chapter of the Project Management Institute.
The six day cruise will sail from New York City through the Bay of Fundy in Saint John, New Brunswick and end in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
During days at sea, a number of speakers, including Dr. Poli, will offer travelers a chance to earn PDU credits.
Poli will discuss the evolution of Project Strategy - a theory initially based on a practitioner’s belief that there had to be a better approach to successful project management.
“As a project team member and later as a project manager, I was frustrated at seeing projects fail or achieve less than full success,” says Dr. Poli. “Even today, making projects more successful is an important issue.” He earned a doctorate by studying “Project Strategy” during which time he collected and analyzed a broad spectrum of data, which resulted in a number of research papers.
With his unique knowledge, Poli will talk about theory and practice of Project Strategy including how it started, evolved and where it is heading.
The all-inclusive cruise will be onboard the Carnival Cruise Ship “Triumph.”
Dr. Poli helped Stevens attain Project Management Institute accreditation in 2004. He has taught in Paris, Beijing, the Dominican Republic, Serbia and Sweden. During his career, Dr. Poli worked at AT&T Bell Labs, where he managed software development; taught the premier Project Management Workshop; jump-started projects; and developed the Best Current Practice in Project Management. He was in product, operations and project management in IBM, EDS, Olivetti and Exxon Systems.
