Three Stevens’ athletes named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District first-team

Michael Hoffman, John Hoffman and Joe Fullam represent 30% of this year’s team

HOBOKEN , N.J. ― Stevens Institute of Technology athletes Michael Hoffman, John Hoffman and Joe Fullam were named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District first-teams for men’s track a nd field/cross country in the College Division (District II) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Only 10 scholar-athletes were chosen as first-team recipients this year in the College Division (District II), meaning that Stevens’ students represent 30% of the team. As first-team recipients, all three will now be included on the All-America ballot.

This is Michael Hoffman’s third year as a CoSIDA All-District team recipient. In 2006 he was named second-team and was named first-team last year. Hoffman has also been chosen as the Senior Scholar-Athlete this year by the Empire 8, which honors scholar-athletes who were dedicated over their four years and maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. Hoffman graduated with a GPA of 3.98 as a Biomed ical Engineer as well as set 27 records on the cross country, indoor and outdoor track, and field teams.

This is John Hoffman’s second consecutive CoSIDA All-District first-team selection. He graduated this year as a Biomedical Engineering major with a 3.95 GPA. Hoffman set five school relay records and was on the 2007 Empire 8’s Presidents’ List. In the indoor season, Hoffman met the ECAC qualifying standard as a member of the distance medley relay team and the 4x800-meter relay team. In addition, he qualified in the 4x400-meter relay event.

This is Joe Fullam’s first time being chosen for the CoSIDA All-District first-team. He graduated from the Mechanical Engineering department with a 3.88 GPA. Fullam is a 3K, 5K and steeplechase runner during the track and field seasons. This past cross country campaign, he clocked a pair of runs that were less than 30 minutes at the Van Cortlandt Park State Park-Bronx, N.Y., Stevens’ home course.
